Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a topic I’ve been wanting to write to you about for months.
So, here we go…
A few months ago, I read about a young man who took his own life after being “advised” by an AI chatbot. It was chilling. The chatbot had been trained to mimic empathy. It mirrored his despair. It confirmed his darkest thoughts.
And then it gave him permission to go through with it. When I read that story, my heart sank. Because this technology isn’t theoretical. It’s not “on the horizon.” It’s already here.
And the more conversations I’ve had about AI — with my kids, my readers, and even my mom and dad — the more I see a dangerous trend:
People think AI is something they can opt out of. They assume it’s a Silicon Valley thing. Or just for gamers and techies. Or a buzzword that’ll fade when the hype dies down.
But here’s the truth:
AI is already in our search results. It’s shaping the headlines we read. It’s writing the product descriptions we buy from. It’s quietly influencing our beliefs, priorities, and attention spans. It’s everywhere. And the scariest part isn’t the existence of AI itself. It’s the fact that millions of people are letting it blend into the background, completely unaware that it’s running the show.
We’re worried about what it might do to our jobs. But we’re not asking how it’s already affecting our decisions. We’re afraid it might make us lazy. But we’re not noticing how it’s slowly numbing our curiosity.
Is AI dangerous? Yes.
But danger comes in different forms.
And the most dangerous form of all…is the kind we don’t recognize. You don’t have to be scared of AI, but you do need to be informed. You need to know how to recognize it, and yes, how to use it. It’s incredibly useful — you just gotta know what you’re working with.
Where it helps. Where it harms. Where it saves you time. And where it starts quietly shaping your thoughts without asking permission. Because AI isn’t going away.
So the real question is…Will you let it use you? Or will you learn how to use it to make your life easier in so many ways?

P.S. I made a quick YouTube video showing how to spot AI-writing in reference books — especially on homesteading, gardening, and food storage. Here’s the link if you want to check it out.
