This Fourth of July feels different.
As our nation celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we’re reminded that freedom is never simply inherited. Every generation has been asked to preserve it, protect it, and pass it on.
The same can be said for knowledge.
Throughout American history, there have always been men and women willing to challenge convention in pursuit of something true. They asked difficult questions. They followed the evidence. And they refused to abandon principles simply because those principles exposed corruption and incompetence.
In the world of nutrition, pioneers like Dr. Royal Lee, Dr. Francis Pottenger Jr., Dr. Harvey Wiley, and Dr. Weston A. Price devoted their lives to understanding the relationship between food, health, and the remarkable ability of the human body to heal. Their work wasn’t always embraced. Much of it was overlooked, repressed, or forgotten as medicine and agriculture changed around them.
Yet they persevered because they believed future generations deserved better.
At Selene River Press, we see ourselves as caretakers of that legacy.
For more than four decades, our mission has never been to chase trends or simply publish books. Our purpose has been to preserve the wisdom of those who came before us, to ensure that hard-earned knowledge is not lost, and to place it into the hands of practitioners, students, and families who will carry it forward.
Today, that responsibility is just as important as ever.
In a world overflowing with information, genuine understanding has become increasingly rare. It takes patience to study. It takes courage to question. And it takes conviction to continue sharing timeless principles when easier paths exist.
That is why we are so grateful for this community.
Every practitioner who takes the time to teach a patient. Every parent who chooses to nourish their family with intention. Every student who opens one more book, asks one more question, or refuses to stop learning—you are helping preserve something larger than yourselves.
You’re keeping the torch lit.
Mark Anderson has spent more than five decades carrying forward the work of Dr. Royal Lee, ensuring that the principles of whole-food nutrition continue to educate and inspire new generations of healthcare professionals. His commitment reminds us that preserving knowledge is not passive work. It is an act of stewardship.
As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, we’re reminded that some of the greatest contributions we can make are not always loud or headline-worthy. Sometimes they are found in the quiet decision to continue doing meaningful work, to stand for truth, to care for our communities, and to leave behind something from the best of ourselves.
That spirit has always been part of the American story.
From all of us at Selene River Press, thank you for being part of ours.
We wish you and your family a joyful, safe, and meaningful Independence Day. May we all continue to honor the freedoms we’ve inherited by preserving the knowledge, health, and principles that will strengthen the generations still to come.
