“Mother knows best!” I’m sure that phrase brings an array of memories and thoughts to your mind, heard at least once or twice by your own mother. Or, as in my case, said to your children if you are a mother yourself.
Those memories or feelings upon hearing these words may be positive or negative, depending on how they were used. For example, in the Disney movie Tangled, the evil Mother Gothel sings it as a way to control Rapunzel. The song drives me nuts!
But, in other ways, the phrase brings happy, fond memories of a loving mother. A mother who uses her life’s experiences and deep love for her children to impart wisdom and safety to them.
There’s another mother who does the same for all living beings: our Mother Earth. Our Mother Earth always knows best when it comes to our health! Let me explain with a little story.
I was talking to a friend who is about fifteen years my senior, and I asked her, “How is your skin so impeccable?” Not a single wrinkle or blemish. She smiled at me and said, “Coconut oil. I put a little organic coconut oil on my face every morning and evening. That’s it.”
No fancy creams. No tiny bottles that claim to be miracle nectars (at $50 a piece for a two-ounce jar at that!), no five-step regimen. A simple, wonderful, pure ingredient from our Mother Earth.
Now, I am NOT advertising coconut oil as an anti-aging hack. I am not suggesting you even try it. What works for one person may or may not work for someone else. That’s up to you to decide and research! But I do want to highlight the truthfulness of this idea of going back to nature. We don’t need to spend atrocious amounts of money or stress on these ridiculous products, especially when they are often full of synthetic chemicals or lies about collagen and vitamins.
A quick Google search will utterly shock you to see the numbers! From Precedence Research, “The global anti-aging market size accounted for USD 77.96 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach around USD 140.94 billion by 2034…”
Fortune Business Insights shows that the skin care industry is “valued at USD 115.65 billion in 2024. The market is projected to grow from USD 122.11 billion in 2025 to USD 194.05 billion by 2032…”
I’m not saying natural skin care products don’t cost money, but they certainly aren’t the billions of dollars we see in these statistics! And I’d wager that a majority of those funds spent are going towards synthetic, man-made materials that not only fail to deliver on their promises, but likely cause more harm to our bodies.
So, how do you know what to buy?! I’ve struggled with that conundrum for years! Anything can slap the word “natural” on a label.
It all comes back to our dear phrase: Mother Nature Knows Best. Read your labels! Are the items listed from our Mother Earth? Or are they words you can’t even pronounce? My toner, for example, lists these ingredients:
- Witch Hazel
- Aloe Vera
- Licorice Extract
All true natural ingredients. All things I’ve heard of and can pronounce! And it is shockingly affordable, too.
Need a bit more insight? Read or listen to Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is! There’s a whole chapter dedicated to natural beauty products, including what to look for and companies you can trust. Also, I recently came across Dr. Alkaitis’s site. Make sure to read their About section, and read the product ingredients. the price is worth the raw, natural ingredients, and I’ve found actual results with them!
I think most people, at least most people reading this post, often think about what they put in their bodies. But do you often think about what you put on your bodies?
Whether you’re new or a novice, practitioner or patient, old or young, let’s all make an effort to listen to our Mother Earth, as she always knows best!
